Minister Greg Harris

There's a song in the heart of this quiet man. You can tell just by looking into his face.

"Music is my life," says Greg Harris. "It's the universal language." Just about every aspect of Greg's life involves music. He plays the organ and writes music for his church band.
On the weekends, he is the music director at KLRG, a gospel radio station in
Little Rock . He's not only the personality, but he selects and plays the music for the Saturday morning and Sunday evening programs.

Greg is founder of the Little Rock Community Choir, a gospel musical group. He and his group have entertained past President Bill Clinton and performed
on the Bobby Jones Gospel show on the Black Entertainment Television Network.
By day, Greg is a sixth-grade teacher at Martin Luther King Elementary. You'd think he'd be a music teacher, but he's not. Harris teaches all the basic core subjects - Math, Science, English, Social Studies and
Reading .

Sometimes Greg incorporates music into his teaching. "There are certain children who really respond to learning his music." Greg not only uses music as a way of teaching, but many other forms as well.
"I haven't met a child that I couldn't teach. As long as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a teacher."

When asked about his future, Greg, without hesitation, said he wants to be a school principal. Greg is currently working on his Master's and is doing internship at MLK. He shadows the school principal and is learning all he can.
As you can imagine, Greg's days and nights are very hectic. He is a Boy Scout troop leader at MLK, a member of the Board of Classroom Teachers Association, President of the NEA Black Caucus, and for the past six years has been a delegate to the NEA's national convention.

It's a great opportunity to see how our dues are spent. But the real focus of the convention is "the kids."

A native of Arkansas , Minister Greg Harris grew up in the Pentecostal church. He began playing the keyboards in the seventh grade, but because of shyness, he had to be bribed into singing.

In 1993, he made an attempt to record with a group that he had established called "Little Rock On Fire." The attempt failed and Greg decided to give up the desire to record or sing. God soon changed Greg's mind by moving a friend to invite him to sing on a live recording in
Louisiana . His ministry of music was truly anointed by God and Greg knew God was telling him that it was time to try again.
During one of his radio broadcasts, Cabis Maurice Brown, the owner of Leo Records called into the station and that discussion led to a live debut recording on Leo Records entitled "Songs From The Heart."

His obscure past gave way to a prominent present and future. Minister Greg Harris and Refreshing Outreach Chorale won hearts everywhere as they ministered in song. Some of Greg's  credits including:
